Instructional Technology

People tend to think that instructional technology is just about utilizing different types of technology for educational purposes. While the field did start out as a way of exploring how audio and visual media could be used in education, instructional technology has come a long way.

According to the AECT in 2008: "Educational technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources."

Educational and instructional technology are a systematic process of designing and implementing the use of technological resources. It is not merely using technology in a classroom, instead it is a careful process of evaluating technology, designing the right types of technology for the right situation, and implementing and evaluating the technological solution. This is all done with educational theory in mind. Our goal is to best support the needs of all learners through educational tools and experiences.
